If you met my mom, you would understand
People are always interested in how someone gets into crafting, no matter what your chosen craft is. My how is very simple – my mom. My mom was always crafting: from sewing to painting to scrapbooking to polymer clay to alcohol inks to multimedia backgrounds – you name it, she’s probably done it. She is a very talented lady!
When I was growing up my mom sewed a lot of my clothes – some good, some not so good 🙂 I remember, I had to be in about 7th grade and we were living in Mobile Alabama, and mom came home with a pot of ink, calligraphy pens and glass. She would trace a picture with the black ink then paint in reverse and mount the finished artwork on some fun material in a frame. She made one for my aunt who had hers hanging up in her house for years.
Before we started scrapbooking, mom and I took acrylic painting classes together. When we started scrapbooking we went all in. I would make books for my growing family and Mom worked on our photos from growing up and also she spent a lot of her time making scrapbooks for the children at the children’s home in Mexico which along with my dad, they started. Children who came from nothing, with very traumatic backgrounds, mom takes the time to make sure they have a book of their growing up years for when they leave. She does amazing work and these books are so precious. For more information on the children’s home, you can follow this link. https://www.riobravoministries.org/
We have taken many scrapbook weekends together, sometimes not getting a lot done, just enjoying each other’s company. This is a love that has been passed down from her to me and I’m trying to pass along to my daughters. One loves making scrapbooks and paints beautifully and my youngest daughter uses a different medium altogether – digital. She draws freehand on an iPad and is able to take art in a whole new direction. She is also the brains behind this website.
The picture shown is one of our favorites of us together. This was taken Christmas day in Mexico at the children’s home. The other picture is from our scrapbook outing last year at a make and take using stencils from The Ton.
