My Monthly Hero Arts June 2023 with Sparkle Backgrounds
Everyone that knows me knows that I LOVE the beach!!! I love sitting in the surf, reading a book, walking in the sand and getting sun. I also love watching sunrises and sunsets. Just how beautiful is God’s handiwork.
This month’s kit encompasses that feeling with the waves and the water and the window die cut. This has got to be one of my FAVORITE kits yet!
I started thinking about the background first. I wanted something more than just a basic ink blending. Not that there’s anything wrong with that – I have seen some beautiful ink blended backgrounds for this kit – I just wanted something different. So I thought I’d do a comparison of similar products: all mica powder based so you know they will have a lot of shimmery sparkles. The three products are: Ranger’s Perfect Pearls, Lindy’s Magical Powder and finally Arteza mica powders. (All three are linked below).
I started with the Perfect Pearls, I do not have many colors of these, so I used what I had. I used watercolor paper for this demonstration. I have done this same technique on 110# card stock with the same outcomes. I use a dry brush and just drop powder in lines.
Then spritz it with water then using a paint brush, spread the color out.
So easy. I did that same process on the bottom half of the page. Easy peasy! The shimmer with the Perfect Pearls is just beautiful.
Next, I used the Lindy’s Magical Powders. I love, love, love these. Once water hits it, BAM different colors start showing up. Dang.
Finally, I used Arteza powders. I love these as well. Again, I did the same process. Drop dry powder on the paper, spritz it with water and using a brush, spread it out.
They all turned out just BEAUTIFUL and the sparkle is so great! Before you go any further you MUST spray the papers with something so the glitter does not come off on your hands when you touch it. I use an aerosol hair spray. I get the little travel size Rave that costs about $1. Just a quick spray is all you need.
After I had the backgrounds done, I just wanted to play with the layered water stamps that came in the kit. They are pretty easy to line up, which I like. After I stamped the water, I used the window die and cut it out in black and white. The results are just beautiful! I just have to add the sentiments and glue the top to a card base and these will be ready to go.
Cards made with these backgrounds and kit are available in the shop.
