My Monthly Hero Kit, May 2023 Projects

This month’s kit was all about springtime and the nostalgia of getting out and riding your bike. Growing up we rode our bikes EVERYWHERE! I remember having to go to volleyball practice my freshman year in high school, and my friend April came and “picked me up” on her bike. We rode the 2 miles to school with her on the seat and pedaling and me either sitting on the handlebars or standing on the back tire pegs. Ah, the good ole days! While looking at this kit, I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. A lot of great stamps but I wasn’t sure what vibe to go with. I practiced just stamping out the bikes with the yellow and teal inks and thought, not too bad. I cut them out using the coordinating die included in the kit. Now I have a bunch of bikes. One bike was sitting on my desk in a slanted position, and it looked like it was doing a wheelie. I looked at the sentiments in the stamp set because I remembered there was a pun about wheelies. I then decided to stamp and cut the grass. I picked a light blue cardstock from my scrap bin and stamped white clouds from the kit then used the nestling circle dies and cut one circle out of the blue and a larger one out of the yellow glitter paper that came in an older kit. I like adding movement or dimension to cards when I can and couldn’t quite figure out how to make the bike move until I remembered that I bought some plastic springs at Hobby Lobby on clearance. I attached the spring to the back wheel and put the bike at an angle on the card and presto – the bike “moves”. I get the premium kit, which was a splurge, and it contained 3 landscape dies. I cut a bunch out because I wanted to play with it. I loved the bench with the tree. It made me feel so relaxed and I wanted to use it. I used my Cricut to type out my sentiment and just put the white die cut at the bottom. It was nice but plain. I thought, hey, why don’t you use watercolors on it? Then I was like – good call. So, I got my watercolors out and painted them. I felt like the grass needed a little depth and movement, so I used alcohol markers and put in some random blades of grass. One last touch was the birds flying overhead. Ah, a day at the park. I like this kit and the cards that I made with it.
